Maps have been around for sometime now and since there introduction many webmasters have decided to lump them on there contact page. I use the term ‘lump’ because that’s essentially what they do. Little thought goes into what purpose they serve or how they can support your users. But with some creative thinking and a bit of programming know how they can be transformed into a fully interactive site feature.
I have come across some great examples in my time but i wanted to share a few so that you can see just how effectively some companies are using them.
Example 1: World Taxi Meter
This one has not been created for a particular taxi company but it computes taxi fairs in various cities. Users simply enter in the locations and it maps it on Google maps.

Example 2: Fast Food Maps
In this example various fast food restaurants have been mapped. Its pretty basic but if you have several stores or restaurants it could be an option to look into.

I’m sure there are some even more cool examples out there but i suppose the point im trying to make is why hide a map on a contact page? Why not make a feature of it and provide real value for your customers?
If you find any others send them in. Would love to take a look.
